Let’s move to the legend now..
If you search “Sriwedari” on google, maybe you’ll find many search result (except to this song) that forward you to Taman Sriwedari, Solo. Yes, Taman Sriwedari is one of cultural place in Surakarta / Solo, Central Java. Taman Sriwedari in Solo is a theater and cultural park that show traditional performing art, called Wayang Orang, or Puppet that played by humans / people. Story of performing art is based on Ramayana and Mahabharata epic.
But actually, the meaning of Sriwedari that was told in Maliq’s song is not Taman Sriwedari in Solo. The meaning from Taman Sriwedari in Maliq’s song is refer to Garden of Heaven, taman surga, in Hindu epic story. Taman Sriwedari is a garden in heaven, a place where Gods and Goddesses live.
A long time before Ramayana and Mahabharata story or even older than Baratayudha War (War between Pandawa and Korawa), there was a kingdom named Maespati, that ruled by king Arjuna Sasrabahu (not Arjuna, son of Pandu, from Baratayudha epic). In that time, Sumantri and Sukrasana were lived. Sumantri and Sukrasana were brothers, they were children from Suwandagni. Sumantri was different from his brother, Sukrasana. Sumantri was a handsome and strong man, Sukrasana was an ugly face man with midget body, but they love each other.
Sumantri wanted to be a soldier of Maespati kingdom, then he asked the King, Arjuna Sasrabahu. The king will promote Sumantri, if only Sumantri can took Dewi Citrawati, Princess of Magada Kingdom to be a Queen of Maespati Kingdom. Sumantri was succeed bring Dewi Citrawati to King Arjuna Sasrabahu, but Sumantri didn’t want gave her for free to the King. Sumantri challenged the King for duel, and the winner could had Dewi Citrawati as a wife. Arjuna Sasrabahu answered the challenge and, he won the duel from Sumantri.
As punishment, the King ordered Sumantri to bring Sriwedari, Garden of Heaven, to Maespati kingdom. Sumantri didn’t know how to bring Sriwedari to Maespati kingdom. In confusion, Sumantri met his brother, Sukrasana. Sukrasana, has a power that given by Candra Birawa, a great warrior from giant race who can reach heaven with his power. Sukrasana help his brother Sumantri, brought Sriwedari, garden of heaven to Maespati Kingdom.
So, that’s how Sriwedari, garden of heaven brought to the world, The most beautiful garden in the world, place where Gods and Goddesses life. Just like you, the most beautiful woman in my life.. =B
